We are seeking a Lead Building Engineer to support the day-to-day maintenance operations of a commercial real estate portfolio. This role is responsible for keeping building systems running efficiently, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and ensuring a high standard of service across multiple properties. The Lead Building Engineer will also provide guidance to junior engineers and serve as a key point of contact for tenants and property management. This position requires travel between sites and participation in an on-call rotation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs across HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Respond to tenant service requests in a timely manner, including temperature, plumbing, and lighting issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions; provide direction on troubleshooting and escalate issues when needed.
  • Replace lighting, filters, and other system components as part of ongoing maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and equipment performance.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for tenants, vendors, and property management.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior engineers to ensure consistent service and issue resolution.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and coordinate contractor activities.
  • Conduct routine property inspections and address deficiencies as identified.
  • Monitor equipment readings to confirm systems are operating within expected ranges.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, leadership, vendors, and tenants.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of building engineering, facilities maintenance, or related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Relevant certifications in HVAC or building systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of work order systems and basic computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook.
  • Familiarity with fire and life safety systems.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Compensation

  • $65,000–$72,000, based on experience.
