We are seeking a Controller to oversee the financial operations of a privately owned construction company specializing in government projects. This role involves managing budgeting, financial reporting, cost control, and ensuring compliance with government contracting regulations. As Controller, you will work closely with the company’s owner to effectively manage all financial aspects of government contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure accurate financial forecasting and budgeting for ongoing projects and overall company operations.
  • Implement cost tracking and control procedures to maintain project profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with government contract regulations, including FAR and DFARS standards.
  • Manage indirect cost rate calculations and prepare required financial reports for government contracts.
  • Oversee cash flow, including project billing cycles, payment collections, and cash forecasting.
  • Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely invoice payments.
  • Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and implement recommendations as necessary.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate job costing, profitability analysis, and financial oversight.
  • Analyze project financials, review cost estimates, and support change order management.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to inform business decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a construction or government contracting environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and project financial management.
  • Knowledge of government contract regulations (FAR, DFARS, and others) and experience in compliance reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Compensation:

  • $75-95K annual salary DOE
