We are seeking a highly skilled Florida Certified Floodplain Manager (1206 Specialist) to evaluate construction and development projects within floodplain areas in Pinellas County, FL. This remote, 1099 contractor role requires a comprehensive understanding of FEMA Section 1206 and flood hazard area regulations, ensuring compliance and providing guidance to mitigate flood risks for new developments and existing structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on flood risk mitigation aligned with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist communities in addressing post-disaster floodplain compliance, loss assessment, and substantial damage evaluation.
- Analyze and interpret Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), NFIP data, and other relevant metrics.
- Stay updated on floodplain management standards, building codes, and support the development of flood risk management maps, policies, and strategies.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal floodplain management teams to ensure project compliance.
- Review and evaluate construction plans for floodplain requirements, conducting site inspections as needed.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and presentations to convey findings and recommendations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental science, urban planning, or a related field.
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in floodplain management, building code compliance, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of FEMA guidelines, Section 1206, and floodplain management regulations.
- Advanced understanding of hydrology, drainage systems, and flood risk assessment methodologies.
- Experience with post-disaster recovery planning and program evaluation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel; Salesforce experience preferred.
- Preferred certifications: Florida building official license, Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Project Management Professional (PMP), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
Compensation
- $60.00 per hour
