We are seeking a Chief Building Engineer for a commercial real estate company. The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate the operation and maintenance of a diverse portfolio of properties, including retail, Class A office, medical, hospitality, and multi-family. This role ensures all facilities and equipment function optimally. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical problem-solving skills and a proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise facility conditions and maintain a high standard of customer-facing appearance.
- Train and mentor building engineers and maintenance staff, ensuring accountability and performance.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays, coordinating additional assistance as necessary.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to maximize the lifespan of buildings, systems, and equipment.
- Schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance activities with vendors and subcontractors to minimize disruptions.
- Use maintenance software and management tools to monitor staff performance and facility conditions.
- Oversee construction activities, including tenant improvements, capital projects, and large-scale maintenance efforts.
- Ensure service providers meet contractual standards and adhere to budget guidelines.
- Monitor building systems, such as Building Management Systems, to maintain business continuity.
- Utilize technology, including smartphones, tablets, and PCs, for management tasks and communication. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
- Prepare budgets for maintenance activities and monitor expenses.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of experience in building maintenance, with expertise in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- 5+ years in a leadership role such as Chief Building Engineer or a similar position.
- Relevant certifications and educational background are preferred.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical capabilities to perform tasks including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting/carrying loads of 50 lbs. or more.
Compensation:
