Our client is a national membership organization seeking a Chief Operations Officer (COO) to oversee the management and day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization’s revenue-generating activities. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in business operations, a proven track record of strategic leadership, and the ability to drive organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

 

The successful candidate will develop and implement strategic plans, manage budgets, and oversee various departments including Membership, HR, Publications and other groups to ensure seamless operations. Exceptional problem-solving skills, strong financial expertise, and the ability to lead diverse teams are crucial for this role. With a focus on prioritizing client and member needs, the COO will continuously seek opportunities to enhance revenue streams and improve operational processes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage department budgets in conjunction with CFO, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
  • Implement and evaluate business processes and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Oversee daily business activities, providing guidance to senior leadership and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Create and approve comprehensive strategies and business plans.
  • Manage support staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and employee development in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Monitor team and individual performance, set clear expectations, and motivate team members by recognizing high performance.
  • Create and support an open communication culture, conduct regular team meetings, and communicate departmental updates.
  • Support seamless flow of reporting to CEO and organizational board
  • Identify and implement new technology to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develop and oversee disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Monitor revenue margins and worker productivity, making recommendations for improvements.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business operations; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or director role.
  • Proven experience managing human and financial resources.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Extensive experience in Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
  • Adaptable to the needs of the organization and employees, with a motivation to take on new challenges and learn continuously.
  • Resourceful problem solver with the ability to resolve conflicting priorities.
  • Experience negotiating multi-million dollar contracts and service agreements.
  • Ability to interact with senior management, board members, VIPs, and external vendors.
  • Experience supporting executives, boards, and committees preferred.
  • Willingness to travel for organizational events and meetings.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times.

 

Compensation:

  • $180,000-200,000+ DOE
